What is teeth whitening

A brighter smile tailored to you

Teeth whitening is a procedure we perform for patients dissatisfied with the current colour of their teeth. We distinguish between internal and external whitening.

Internal whitening is performed on individual teeth that have darkened – most commonly non-vital teeth or teeth with a treated root canal. The whitening agent is placed inside the tooth and it gradually lightens to its original colour.

More common is external whitening, performed at home using custom-made silicone trays. The patient applies a small amount of whitening gel to the trays and repeats the process until the desired shade is achieved.

Custom silicone tray
A tray made precisely from the impression of your teeth for even distribution of the whitening gel.
Safe whitening gel
Gel with hydrogen peroxide at safe concentrations for effective and gentle whitening.
Result to your preference
You control the whitening intensity yourself — you whiten until you are satisfied with the resulting colour.

Who is whitening suitable for

Suitable for everyone

Teeth whitening is suitable for all adult patients with permanent teeth regardless of age.

Whitening before crown or veneer fabrication

If you are planning a ceramic crown or veneer, we recommend whitening first. The shade of the restoration will then be matched to your whitened teeth.

Main reasons for whitening
Dissatisfaction with tooth colour
Staining from coffee, tea or tobacco
Preparation before crown or veneer fabrication
Darkening of a non-vital tooth (internal whitening)
Natural ageing and yellowing of teeth
Frequently asked questions

Most common questions

Does teeth whitening hurt?
Teeth may be temporarily sensitive during and after whitening. We recommend starting with shorter intervals between applications.
How often should teeth be whitened?
The interval between applications is up to you. You can whiten every few days or daily, based on your sensitivity and desired result.
How long does it take to achieve the desired shade?
Every patient has a different target shade and teeth respond at different rates. The exact duration depends on the starting shade and desired result.
